Chippoke's Event :)

Chippokes Harvest Celebration.  The Friends of Chippokes are sponsoring a fall event at the park on Saturday, October 18, from 11 am to 7 pm.  Along with craft and food vendors, there will be exhibits including basket weaving, hearth cooking, different types of dancing (folk, African-American, and Native American), and blacksmithing.  All ages will enjoy activities such as scarecrow making, pumpkin decorating, and historical games.  Activities will be at the Farm & Forestry Museum and in the mansion area of the park, with a tram running regularly throughout the day.  At 5 pm there will be a Chippokes Ghost Tour, where you will learn some of the plantation’s history as you meet characters from Chippokes’ past.  The day ends with a Haunted Garden Walk at 6 pm.  The only cost is your $5/vehicle park admission fee.  Come and bring your family and friends to enjoy the day at Chippokes!
 October Park Programs of Interest:
·         River House Tour – Saturday, October 11 from 2:00 to 2:30 pm.  Meet in front of the River House.  A guide will take visitors through the rooms of the River House, focusing on how the dwelling fit into the history of Chippokes.
·         James River Hike Saturday, October 25 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.  Join a park interpreter at the Jones-Stewart Mansion parking lot for a leisurely stroll through forests and fields.
·         Fossil Walks – Saturdays, October 4, 11, and 25 from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.  Meet an interpreter at the River House parking lot for an adventure through abundant fossil beds at Chippokes.  Discover the creatures that lived here long ago and how the habitats at Chippokes have gone through drastic changes.
